Baby Sparkle was a premie.  She was born up to 4 days too early, so that gave her a very slow start along with momma Penny not wanting anything to do with her puppies.  I managed to hand milk colostrum from Penny and syringe it to each puppy for the first day and a half.  Poor little thing has been fighting all along from a little umbilical infection from big sis Lexi trying to nurse her to just being behind in development.  Karo syrup, Clavamox and lots of bottle feeding every 1-2 hours along with some heavy prayers to Saint Francis have helped this little girl pull through.  There were some worried days there when she lost weight but she had drive and the will to live.  She now is developing normally although about a week behind Lexi.  We have confidence she will catch up and do well in a few more days. Sparkle is now taking 2.5 ounces of formula every 2 hours. She fights her nipple and is so impatient to get every last drop.  In between bottles she is put on Eva to get some mothering time from her.

6/19/08: Sparkle is continuing to grow slowly , she is my hard luck kid...of all the things she has gone through to get this far, she is a feisty little thing.  She is just the sweetest, little doll and loves to snuggle in your neck.  She gets special attention most of the time and takes full advantage of it! "where's sparkle?, "watch out for sparkle"," don't trample sparkle", "sparkle come snuggle"......she eats separately from the rest of the ravenous gang but has her own hunger rampages and throws a fit if you don't have her food ready "right now!"  I just love her and her outgoing little personality, who knows what she will turn out to be, but she should grow to what she is genetically programmed once she gets into the swing of things.

07/07/08: Sparkle had her first off property adventure to PetCo with Hope and Lexy yesterday.  She enjoyed getting fawned over by the employees and passers-by.  She loved the cool floor and just wanted to take a nap as the outing was quite an adventure.  She will be going back soon for more loving and socialization from everyone that meets her, she is just a little "sparkle" to us.  When I put her auntie Eva's collar on her from when Eva was a little tot, I immediately started singing, "there ain't no bugs on ME!", "there might be bugs on some of you mugs, but there ain't no bugs on ME!"  I just love that commercial. :) rather fitting for her as she could be a calendar girl for that song.
